Beyond the Rat Race

Have you ever felt like King Solomon?

A man who had riches, love, prestige even great wisdom and yet he wrote..." Therefore I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me, for all is vanity and grasping for the wind." (Ecclesiastes 2:17). Solomon was a man who was greatly blessed by God but yet he began to leave God out of his life. As a result his life became increasingly empty.

We are living in an age of great prosperity (at least in the westren world) yet many are still grasping after the wind Somehow life has not delivered everything it promised. The new house and the new car were great for a while but the sense of fullfilment that they gave has started to pass away.

Work harder...study more...get a better job...earn more money where does it all end?

A good job and plenty of cash are great things, I'd rather be comfortable than starving, who wouldn't?

But what about the emtiness inside, in the heart, what can bring comfort in there?
Religion helps for a while, it gives a sense of somthing greater, somthing beyond ourselves but more often than not religion in and of itself soon begins to lack the power to really bring peace to the heart. The problem with religion is that it involves mankind working their way to God. All religons do it, think about it...just pray long enough, give enough of your money, meditate hard enough, try to be a better person etc etc. All those things are great but they dont take away sin from the human heart.

Now you might not think that the problem is sin...after all you have never killed anyone or even stolen anything and anything that you ever did wrong was for a good reason. But sin is not just the things that you do its a heart condition and its that condition which ends up producing emptiness in our lives.

Christ Jesus came to remove that condition from all people everywhere. He said "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." (John 3:17) Jesus is the saviour of the world...what does saved mean? Literaly to be saved means to be made complete, we are not just talking about saved from judgment in the next life although Jesus has certainly taken care of that. But we are talking about being made complete here and now...everyday.
It begins with faith and repentance.

Faith is believing God but also depending on Him, trusting Him. It is saying to Jesus Christ "I cant go on without you, I need you in my life"

Repentance is to turn to God, literely to have a change of mind.

You will find fullfilment only in Him. Here is what the bible says:

For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. (Mat 16:25)

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Mat 11:28)

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name (John 1:12)

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)
